By Jeneni recognizes that our work takes place on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. More specifically, this land is part of the Dish with One Spoon Treaty, an agreement between the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This territory is also covered by the Upper Canada Treaties. The city of Toronto (Tkaronto) is located within the boundaries of the Toronto Purchase Treaty lands, specifically, Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. It is important to recognize the layers & circumstances that lead to these signings, and that this land is still home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. We are grateful to have the opportunity to meet and work on this territory.
